can this shower base be tiled over?

A. The American Standard 4242Y1.SR-NEO was not designed to be tiled over. A professional tile installer should be used when installing tile shower bases as propensity for leaking can be rather high.

The lip on the door side...does this mean the door can only open "in"? Also, if I wanted to build walls on the two sides on both sides of the door, is this the right shower pan to use? thanks.

A. The lip on the American Standard 4242Y1.SR-NEO Neo Angle Shower will not interfere with the direction a shower door opens. With most shower kits the doors open outwards. If you are planning on building a custom shower with walls this pan will work fine. American standard also offers complete kits with shower pan, glass walls and a door if you would like to simplify your project.
